Star Christmas Cookies Recipe

Ingredients

  • 250 g flour
  • 125 g of unsalted butter (at room temperature)
  • 100 g caster sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract or cinnamon (to taste)
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder

For the icing

  • 200 g icing sugar
  • A few spoons of water (adjust to get the right consistency)
  • Food coloring (optional)
  • Glitter or sugar decorations for finishing

1 – Preparation of the dough

  • Preheat your oven to 180°C.
  • In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until creamy.
  • Add the egg and vanilla or cinnamon extract, then mix well.
  • In another bowl, sift the flour, baking powder and salt.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter and egg mixture until you have a smooth dough.
  • Form the dough into a ball, wrap it in plastic wrap, and let it rest in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes.

2 – Cutting out cookies

  • Roll out the dough on a lightly floured work surface to a thickness of about 5 mm.
  • Use a star-shaped cookie cutter to cut out the cookies.
  • Arrange the cookies on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, spacing them slightly apart.

3 – Cooking

  • Bake the cookies for 10 to 12 minutes, or until lightly browned around the edges.
  • Let them cool completely on a rack.

4 – Preparing the icing

  • In a bowl, mix the icing sugar with a few spoonfuls of water to obtain a thick but fluid icing.
  • You can add food coloring if you want colorful frostings.
  • Spoon the frosting into a piping bag or plastic bag with a corner cut off, and decorate the cooled cookies with snowflakes or other Christmas designs.
  • Add sprinkles or sugar decorations while the icing is still wet.

5 – Finishing

  • Let the frosting harden for a few hours before enjoying or wrapping them up as gifts.
